Got this nifty camera as a "toss in the car" camera, ready for those unexpected happenings. After reading reviews for about an hour (where usually I'd obsess for a week finding comparative reviews), I found this on sale at Newegg (Oct of 2008) and they tossed in a case and 2 gig SD card. 9 US total with tax and shipping. VERY good price. With a little poking around in the manual while the battery charged, I was able to take photos right away. 8 megs. I brought the image into Photoshop to check for sharpness. WOW!, even the fine hairs of the stuffed animal were sharp. One of the reasons I bought this over another is the 16:9 options on both still and video. I really wasn't expecting anything great from the video, but was shocked to see how sharp the image was, with great clarity on the colors. Pixel width of 848 was impressive, and MORE than my Sony camcorder. See my Youtube channel CarolJWright for preliminary test shots. As typical of a digital camera video-mode, one cannot refocus nor zoom once you start filming. You have to stop, rezoom, and start again (but in pro video one should not overdo actual zooms anyway. You shoot at one zoom, stop then rezoom and begin filming again). Since I made the YouTube video, I have tried shooting indoors video, making sure I had the right color balance....macro of my keyboard...very sharp and color correct. Haven't tried a test with/without the Optical Image Stabilization, but it is a very desirable feature. Now I wonder what I could have purchased if I had thrown another into it. 10 megs, another level of optical zoom, Just discovered a slide show option...cute, zooms a bit with each change of slide...has cheesy music, which I'd like to find how to cancel or replace. Look forward to seeing how much this nifty camera has to offer as I poke around with the buttons...or read the manual. Now there's a concept. Have not hooked it up directly to the computer yet, nor installed the programs/info from the CD that came with it.
Problems: None of these are "problems," just to be aware of... You'll need to buy a larger SD card, though the camera comes with 50 megs memory, so you can at least get started. Video is limited to 2 gigs per shot (about 22 min). Assume limit is an 8 gig card. The info on the movie mode in the manual is only one page long. Had to poke around to figure how to play back videos. For awhile I didn't think it was possible, then found the top button on the circle commands. A lot of the settings for stills are applicable on the video mode. The case is a little slippery for one-handed use, especially if zooming. However there is a little button on top that will zoom in then all the way out. Discovered the SD card has to be CLICKED in. On my other Lumix, the door closing clicks in the SD card. Slide show music is cheesy. Haven't found a way to cancel it yet, but will look and will investigate how much I can get into the camera's file structure, so perhaps I can replace it with another choice.

Very compact and very usefull. The price and quality are even or should I say too less for it's quality? (I paid 188€) The video quality is very good.
Problems: It has a video option but it's difficult to find.. I think they should have added a button for video-option.
