New Canon D40 Digital Camera have 10 megapixel new CMOS sensor, DIGIC III processor, three custom user modes on mode dialiogs, 3.0-inch LCD monitor, 6.5 fps continuous shooting, Live View, larger brighter viewfinder with focusing screens, new AF system with nine points.
“The EOS 40D represents an important step in the development of EOS for the advanced amateur market. It incorporates many of the technologies pioneered in our latest EOS-1 series cameras,” said Mogens Jensen, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging, Europe.

- 10.1 Megapixel new CMOS APS-C sensor
- ISO 1600 (up to ISO 3200 in manual modes)
- 6.5 fps continuous shooting
- New AF system with 9 cross-type sensors (Central AF point is capable of focusing up to aperture f/2.8, with eight outer points working up to f/5.6)
- DIGIC III processor
- 3.0-inch LCD (with Live View mode, including a live histogram and selectable grid overlay
- EOS - Integrated Cleaning System
- Clear and bright viewfinder
- Three custom user modes on mode dialiogs

With D40, also announces two news EF-S lenses:
- EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS – a high quality standard zoom lens with 4-stop Image Stabilizer
- EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS – telephoto zoom offering the longest focal range in the EF-S range with 4-stop Image Stabilizer
